Gerardo Fernández
Gerardo Fernández was born with music in his soul. He did not learn it: he recognized it. From the age of five, when he asked his father to teach him to play the guitar, he already sensed that art would be his path.
For him, music was never an obligation. It was play, refuge, instinct. He did it for pleasure, like a child who plays without fear of making mistakes. And in that natural surrender, an artist was born.
He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, but at the age of two he was taken to Washington. From there, to California. Where the well-known "Gerardito" feels from.
He is the youngest of six siblings and grew up among fields, guitars and the daily effort of a migrant family that did not stop dreaming.
At the age of eight he was already recording his first album. Shortly after, he appeared on Sábado Gigante, marking the beginning of a life on stage. Even if he didn't know it yet.
In addition to singing and playing guitar, he has an extraordinary ability for drums and violin. He has never stopped playing, not even in his years of musical silence.
Because although the industry disappointed him more than once, music always sustained him. On more than one occasion he thought about walking away and, in fact, he did. But he came back. He has always chosen music over and over again.
He inherits the musical caste of his family, and his brother Pedro Fernández has been one of the most important figures in ranchera music.
Although their trajectories have been different, they share the same deep love for Mexican music.
Gerardo Fernández has built his own path, with determination and dedication. He has earned it alone, from below. His career is made up of silent battles and small big victories.
From an early age, he signed with labels such as Alacrán Records, Balboa Records, Capitol EMI Latin, Univision Music and Fonovisa, navigating the lights and shadows of the business. Over the years, Gerardo has recorded 13 albums and has explored genres such as mariachi, banda, norteño, and modern fusions. Although its essence is in regional Mexican, its soul is free. He doesn't believe in labels: he believes in emotion. And he sings what he feels. He is also a composer: he writes from calm, from memory, from truth. Their music honors their roots. He sings to his country, to his history, to the people who struggle. It does not look for likes: it seeks connection. He is moved by authenticity, the pride of being Mexican and the need to represent his culture with dignity. Charismatic, with an easy smile, a lover of animals, and especially horses, Gerardo Fernández is a composer, musician and singer who has not lost his instinct or humility despite the years and experience. He is currently working on new collaborations with emerging talents and different genres. His new proposals, which come from a more mature perspective as a musician, only reaffirm his place in the Mexican music scene.
